he Shadow Minister for Health Promotion Danielle Green is ‘sending grog on a holiday’ this February by taking part in ‘FebFast 2012’.
Ms Green says FebFast is a national event where people give up alcohol for a month to raise money for programs supporting young people with drug and alcohol programs.
“FebFast is a great way to start the year,” Ms Green said.
“Like many Victorians, I enjoy a drink in moderation but for too many people, alcohol is something they depend on and this dependency impacts on their work, their relationships and their health.”
Ms Green said FebFast was about raising awareness of the negative impact that alcohol could have.
“While cutting out beer or swapping wine for a water might not be the hardest thing for most of us to do, there are many people who have a tough time managing alcohol in their life,” she said.
“Being a leap year, February is a day longer, but this shouldn’t deter people from having a go.
“In fact other members of the Labor Party are joining me in FebFasting this year. If you would like to sponsor us, please visit http://www.febfastfundraising.com.au/vic_labors_fast.
“By ‘giving grog a holiday’ this February, you can support a worthy cause, make a healthy start to year, and help raise awareness about excessive alcohol consumption.”
