Ian has lived in Geelong all his life and is the father of two teenage daughters. He was educated at Newcomb Primary and Geelong High Schools before completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management.
Prior to his election in 1999 Ian was employed as the Shipping Manager at the Port of Geelong.
Ian has had a life long involvement in the community of Geelong having been an active member and committee person on numerous sporting clubs and community organisations and was a Geelong City Councillor from 1989 to 1993.
Within the Parliament Ian has been a member of the Parliamentary Road Safety Committee since 1999 and through this work has been instrumental in a number of significant roads safety intiaitves including the introduction of 40 km speed restrictions around our schools.
Within the community of Geelong, Ian is proud of Labor's achievements including upgrades and rebuilds to most Geelong schools, significant upgrades to Geelong Hosptial incluiding the Andrew Love Oncology ward, the Accident and Emergency Department, the complete rebuild of Grace McKellar and the 40% increase of nursing staff within Barwon Health.
Ian is also committed to the provision of qualtiy employment opportunities and growth and was thus a major driver in securing intiatives such as the relocation of the Transport Accident Commission ito Geelong creating hundreds of local jobs in Geelong.
However Ian also realises there is more to be done and is committed to ensuring Geelong remains a great place to live , work and raise a family.
