Country Labor
Who we are
Country Labor forms the voice of regional Victoria within the Victorian Branch of the ALP. Members of the ALP from rural and regional electorates are automatically members of Country Labor.
Country Labor holds a Country Conference every two years and undertakes a range of activities to promote ALP policies in rural & regional Victoria.
Country Labor Executive
Country Labor Executive (CLX) is an elected group of 20 ALP members from rural & regional Victoria. CLX originally grew out of a Policy Committee - Rural and Regional Affairs Policy Committee. In 1998, the committee changed its name to Country Labor Executive and the new CLX played an important role in advocating ALP policy across rural and regional Victoria in the lead up to the 1999 election.
The Country Labor Executive organises Country Conference and conducts forums across the state in conjunction with local Branches and sometimes Policy Committees.
Part of the executive’s role is to undertake policy development work on issues that affect rural and regional Victorians, such as:
- agriculture
- service delivery
- the environment
- local government
- regional development
- transport
The Country Labor Executive strives to ensure that the voice of rural and regional Victoria remains a strong one within the ALP.
