Decision Making
FEAs
Branches are grouped into decision-making bodies called Federal Electorate Assemblies (FEAs). Branches which make up an FEA are determined by federal electorate boundaries.
Delegates from each FEA attend and vote on the FEA’s behalf at the Party’s State Conference. Local branch members elect their FEA delegates to the State Conference. They also elect their local branch executive, the FEA Executive and other local bodies.
State Conference
The State Conference determines the Party’s rules and elects important committees, such as the Administrative Committee and the Public Office Selection Committee. It also elects delegates to the National Conference.
State Conference is populated by two groups: 50% of delegates are elected by branch members; and 50% of delegates are nominated by affiliated unions. State Conference usually meets twice a year (in spring and autumn).
All members are welcome to attend the State Conference but only FEA and affiliated union delegates have voting rights.
In addition to State Conference, there are also annual conferences of country members, and members under 26 years of age, through Victorian Young Labor.
