Chapter 8: Environmental Sustainability and Resources
Labor believes the liveability of Victoria for future generations of families depends on us using water, energy and other resources more efficiently and introducing more sustainable land management and farming practices.
We are committed to contributing to the global fight against climate change by focussing on renewable energy, conservation and recycling; encouraging changes in water use to prepare for the drier climate likely in the future; promoting the sustainable use of natural resources; and protecting our natural ecosystems from imported diseases and pests.
Since 1999, the Labor Government has developed a comprehensive Greenhouse Srategy to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by five to eight million tonnes by 2010 and created a world class sytem of Marine National Parks, protected Box Ironbark forests and other threatend ecosystems, and established the new Great Otway National Park.
