A fourth outbound lane on a section of the Monash Freeway will open this weekend, as part of the Brumby Government’s major M1 upgrade.

Premier John Brumby today turned the first sod on the $30.5 million Thompson Road duplication project between the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Dandenong-Frankston Road.

Drivers on Taylors Road, St Albans, will be cheering from today as westbound traffic is switched on to the new road underpass, eliminating another congested railway level crossing in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Works to unclog a major bottleneck on Melbourne’s rail network are well progressed with the first of 22 holes bored to support a second rail bridge over the Merri Creek between Clifton Hill and Westgarth stations.

Bell Station is the latest station on the rail network to be upgraded to premium status, and from today will be staffed from first to last train.
