Students at three Gippsland schools will benefit from the Brumby Labor Government’s $14.9 million investment in new and refurbished facilities at Maffra Primary School, Maffra Secondary College and Kurnai College in Morwell.
Treasurer John Lenders today officially opened new buildings at the schools and also launched the Bairnsdale Education Plan at Bairnsdale Secondary College.
"Education is the Brumby Labor Government's number one priority and these wonderful new facilities will help local students achieve their best," Mr Lenders said.
“We are not only building better schools we are standing up for jobs across Gippsland."
“We are not only building better schools we are standing up for jobs across Gippsland by working in partnership with the Rudd Labor Government.
"Under our $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan, the Brumby Labor Government is rebuilding, refurbishing or extending every Government school across the state."
Maffra Secondary College's $5.3 million stage two refurbishment includes a new middle school, a new music and multimedia precinct and a refurbished administration area.
Maffra Primary School has experienced the largest upgrade of facilities in its 141-year history and its $4.1 million redevelopment includes nine classrooms, a gymnasium, a canteen, arts and music spaces and refurbished staff and administration areas.
Maffra's primary and secondary schools have also received $1.18 million through the Commonwealth's Building the Education Revolution.
The $4.3 million upgrade at Kurnai College's Morwell campus includes a new gymnasium, a new ICT and design centre and an open learning space for Year 7 students.
"Maffra Primary School, Maffra Secondary College and Kurnai College are shining examples of the revitalisation that is occurring in education in the Gippsland region and what the Brumby Labor Government is delivering across the state," Mr Lenders said.
"We have made these investments because we want to build strong foundations for current and future students in Maffra and Morwell.
"That means ensuring Gippsland students have access to the world-class facilities and state-of-the-art equipment they need and deserve."
