Residents of Truganina, Tarneit and Williams Landing are set to benefit from a $5.9 million multipurpose community centre and sports pavilion, thanks to a $1 million funding boost from the Brumby Labor Government.
Minister for Community Development Lily D’Ambrosio said the new facility would provide a place where local clubs and community groups can get together.
“The new facility being built at the Arndell Estate in Truganina will ensure residents of this growing community have access to quality facilities,” Ms D’Ambrosio said. “Arndell Park will become a real hub for this growing community.”
“The Centre will include space for playgroups, fitness activities, faith-based activities, facilities for older residents and a performing arts space as well as a sports pavilion for the adjacent soccer fields.
“The commercial kitchen will be able to cater for events, for cooking classes, or even a community café.”
Member for Altona Jill Hennessy said by locating social, sporting and community facilities in one easily accessible place, Arndell Park will become a real hub for this growing community.
“Through projects such as this the Brumby Labor Government is delivering facilities that will be used by residents well into the future and by people of all ages,” she said.
The $1 million in Brumby Labor Government funding is being provided through the Community Facilities for Growth Areas program and a Victorian Community Support Grant.
From the development of plans and priorities for the future, to building new community infrastructure, Victorian Community Support Grants provide funding to deliver projects that improve communities.
Since 2004, the Victorian Community Support Grants program has supported more than 530 projects – worth more than $88 million.
The Community Facilities for Growth Areas program will provide funds of $6.5 million to growth area councils over the next two years.
