$1 million Anglesea ambulance station ready soon
Anglesea’s new $1 million ambulance station will be finished early next year.
Inspecting construction of the new station, Health Minister Daniel Andrews said it would provide first-class service to the Anglesea region and was one of 59 new or expanded ambulance facilities funded by the Brumby Labor Government.
“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to deliver the highest quality ambulance services to communities across country Victoria, close to where people live,” Mr Andrews said. “This new home will be a welcome boost for local paramedics and volunteers.”
“This new home will be a welcome boost for local paramedics and volunteers, who will be even better equipped to respond to critical medical emergencies around Anglesea. We are committed to ensuring Victorians have access to the best ambulance service.
“The station now has two full-time paramedics available 24 hours a day and volunteer officers. This new state-of-the-art facility will provide an improved working environment for all staff.”
Mr Andrews said the project had generated important jobs for the local workforce during construction, which was expected to be finished early next year.
“The building will include comprehensive sustainable design features including solar hot water heating, low-energy lighting and extensive thermal insulation,” he said.
Mr Andrews said the new station was part of a record $185.7 million Brumby Labor Government investment in Victoria’s ambulance services.
“This funding will deliver a number of benefits to the Barwon South Western region including a new Geelong MICA rapid response unit, a new station at Hamilton, paramedics and new stations at Apollo Bay and Timboon, an extra crew at Colac and a new emergency helicopter based in south-west Victoria,”
he said.
“The new helicopter means an air ambulance service at Warrnambool will be ready to fly patients in a critical condition directly from an emergency to a major trauma centre in Melbourne.
Member for South Barwon Michael Crutchfield said the new station would be a welcome boost for local ambulance services.
“Victoria's ambulance service is the best in Australia thanks to the work of our paramedics and a funding boost from the Brumby Labor Government,” he said.
“The Victorian Government has more than doubled funding for ambulance services since 1999.”
