Construction will start soon on the $20 million redevelopment of the Alexandra District Hospital, with preparation works almost complete.
Visiting the site today as part of the Brumby Labor Government’s Broadford to Yarra Valley Community Cabinet, Health Minister Daniel Andrews said the project would deliver a state-of-the-art hospital offering a range of important health services to the local community.
“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to give Victorians a better health system, by building new hospitals and hiring more doctors and nurses,” Mr Andrews said.
“With more than 80 jobs to be created in construction and related industries.”
“This $20 million redevelopment will give local families access to a wider range of first-class medical and health services, close to home, with a new operating theatre and primary care area.
“It will offer medical care, emergency stabilisation, community health, administration, and community support facilities.
“A new Alexandra Ambulance Station will be built and co-located on the site, which will ensure greater co-ordination of cases and a better work environment for local paramedics and volunteers.
“This is an important health project but also a big one for local jobs, with more than 80 jobs to be created in construction and related industries.”
Mr Andrews said construction was due to finish by the middle of next year.
“Alexandra District Hospital has provided first-class care to the community for many years and now the quality of care will be matched by state-of-the-art buildings and infrastructure.
“The redeveloped hospital will offer a more comfortable environment for patients and visitors and better working conditions for the dedicated staff here.”
Member for Seymour Ben Hardman said the new facility was an important one for the local community.
“Families in this area rely on the fantastic care provided by hard-working staff and this $20 million redevelopment will be a real boost to the delivery of healthcare in this area,” he said.
“We know that residents want to be able to access the very best health services close to home and close to where they live.
“This project is another example of the Brumby Labor Government’s commitment to support country health services with record funding and important capital investments.”
