Statement From Premier John Brumby On The Resignation Of Northern Terrotory Cheif Minister Clare Martin

Clare Martin has made a significant contribution to Australian and, in particular, Northern Territory politics.

Clare made history in August 2001, when she led the Australian Labor Party into Government in the Northern Territory for the first time.

She has worked very hard during her six years as Chief Minister, overseeing a strong economy with high business confidence, more jobs and significant population growth.

I wish Clare, her partner David Alderman, and their family all the very best.

I also extend my best wishes for the future to Syd Stirling. Syd was an excellent Treasurer who always made a positive contribution to Treasurers Ministerial Council meetings each year in Canberra.

I congratulate Paul Henderson on being elected Leader by the Northern Territory Labor caucus and look forward to working with him
