Premier Welcomes A Rudd Labor Government

Premier John Brumby congratulated Kevin Rudd and the Federal Labor Party on their historic election win last night and said he looked forward to working with a Rudd Labor Government.

“The Australian public have overwhelmingly endorsed Kevin Rudd’s plan for the future,” Mr Brumby said.

“I want to offer my congratulations to Kevin and his team on such a fantastic victory and for running a flawless campaign.

“Change at the national level has been long overdue and Kevin Rudd’s win will see a new era of leadership and a new focus for Australia on health, education and skills training.

“The Victorian Government looks forward to working with the Rudd Government.”

Mr Brumby also congratulated Julia Gillard in becoming the nation’s first female deputy Prime Minister.

“It is particularly pleasing to see a Victorian as deputy Prime Minister and I know Julia will be a strong leader in the new federal Government,” Mr Brumby said.

Mr Brumby said Labor‘s win was good news for working family with Kevin Rudd’s commitment to put fairness back into Australian workplaces.
