Vermont SC shines with $7.5 million refurbishment

Students at Vermont Secondary College will this year reap the benefits of $7.5 million in upgraded facilities.

Touring the construction works today, Education Minister Bronwyn Pike said the major project was part of the biggest school building program in Victoria’s history.

“Education is our Government’s number one priority and we’re building better schools in partnership with the Commonwealth so children can do better at school,” Ms Pike said.

“We are continuing to invest in schools through the biggest rebuilding program in Victoria’s history so students can be educated in bright and modern classrooms.

“We are continuing to invest in schools through the biggest rebuilding program in Victoria’s history.”

“Stage Two works at Vermont Secondary College include new and refurbished classrooms, a new multi-media lecture theatre, extensive site development and services infrastructure upgrade.

“The total cost of the project is $7.5 million – with the Victorian Government contributing $6.3 million  and the local community  contributing $1.2 million.

“Vermont Secondary College is a great example of our commitment to deliver 21st century schools to ensure Victorian students are educated in 21st century environments.”

Ms Pike said the Stage Two redevelopment is scheduled for completion in April.

The current construction work follows a 2005 refurbishment of the music, arts graphics, home economics, technology studies, canteen and student lockers, made possible through $1.9 million from the Victorian Government, $1.1 million from the Commonwealth Government and a local contribution of $383,000.

Member for Forest Hill Kirstie Marshall said that the size of this investment would serve the local community for years to come.

“Funding at Vermont Secondary College means that local families can be confident their children are being given the best opportunities to build strong foundations for their future.”
