A $3 million school upgrade package will see another six Victorian schools – including Mt Dandenong Primary School – benefit from better school buildings under the Brumby Government’s Better Schools Today initiative.
Education Minister Bronwyn Pike said the Brumby Government has invested $20 million in 46 modernisation projects as part of the initiative, and today visited Mt Dandenong Primary School with Monbulk MP James Merlino to announce the funding for new building works.
“Mount Dandenong, Cockatoo, Templeton, Park Orchards, Coburg, and Shepparton East primary schools will share in the $3 million funding we’re announcing today, each receiving $500,000 to modernise and upgrade their education facilities,” Ms Pike said.
“Education remains the Brumby Government’s number one priority which is why we are investing in the best resources young Victorians need to have the best learning opportunities.
“By creating new learning spaces, students and teachers will have better access to high-quality facilities equipped for modern teaching and learning.”

Mt Dandenong’s funding will allow the school to extend and upgrade its multi-purpose room to create an even better learning space for students and teachers to work in.
The six new schools announced today are in addition to the 10 schools that successfully gained funding under the Better Schools Today program in the recent State Budget.
They were: Oakleigh Primary School, Sherbrooke Community School, Springview Primary School in Nunawading, Cheltenham East Primary School, Coatesville Primary School in Bentleigh East, Balmoral High School/Balmoral Consolidated School, Hazelwood North Primary School, Redan Primary School in Sebastopol, Maple Street Primary School in Golden Square and Werrimull P-12 College.
“The Brumby Government is taking action to ensure families have the best schools, because students deserve to enjoy modern facilities where they can learn to their full potential,” Ms Pike said.
Mr Merlino said the Better Schools Today initiative is modernising classrooms, staff and administrative areas, as well as indoor and outdoor teaching spaces.
“It is further proof the Brumby Government is delivering on our $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan to rebuild, renovate or extend all Victorian government schools,” Mr Merlino said.
“The Brumby Government’s record investment in school buildings and infrastructure will help boost the skills and education of young Victorians and meet the challenges of the future.”
