Students have moved into the first of four new secondary schools being built in Bendigo by the Victorian Government, with the Premier John Brumby today opening the first stage of the new $21.9 million Eaglehawk Secondary College today.
At Eaglehawk Secondary College where he used to teach, Mr Brumby said students and teachers had moved into the new school less than three weeks ago and were benefiting from state-of-the-art buildings and facilities constructed as part of the $11.3 million stage one project.
“We are building better schools for a better future for our children and the new Eaglehawk Secondary College will ensure Bendigo families have access to the best facilities and the best education for their children,” Mr Brumby said.

“I am delighted to be here to join the Eaglehawk Secondary College school community at this exciting time. The completion of stage one means that students and staff can now enjoy state-of-the-art classrooms, a specialist design and technology building and a new performing arts centre.
“Stage one also features two new learning neighbourhoods with first-rate flexible learning spaces and demonstrates how our Government is taking action to equip students and staff with the most modern teaching and learning facilities so that they have every opportunity to achieve their best.
“This project forms part of our Bendigo Education Plan in which more than $70 million committed to rebuild four brand new years 7-10 schools, with construction also underway at Weerona College, Crusoe College and Bendigo South East. Eaglehawk is the first of these new schools to be completed.”
Construction of stage one at Eaglehawk, an $11.3 million project has been completed with construction of the $10.6 million second stage underway and to be completed next year.
Stage two involves construction of a new administration and global learning centre, two more learning neighbourhoods and a fully-equipped first-class gymnasium.
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said the official opening of the new Eaglehawk Secondary College was a great day for the community.
“We want Bendigo students to have the best possible chance to fulfil their potential and this new schools provides them with a high quality learning environment equipped with modern teaching,” Ms Allan said.
“Bendigo students and teachers are reaping major benefits from our Government’s commitment to rebuild, renovate or redevelop every school in Victoria and will have top-quality education facilities to secure their futures.”
Member for Bendigo West Bob Cameron the Bendigo Education Plan was the jewel in the crown of the Brumby Government’s $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan.
“When these four schools are complete, Bendigo families will have access to the very best education opportunities for their children,” Mr Cameron said.
