$8.7 million transformation at Mount Waverley Primary

Mount Waverley Primary School students are experiencing the benefits of the Victorian Government’s schools rebuilding program, with Premier John Brumby today officially opening the school’s new $5.5 million new state-of-the-art facilities.

Joined by Member for Mount Waverley Maxine Morand, Mr Brumby said the new redevelopment would provide first-class learning opportunities for students and greatly improved resources for staff.

“We agree with parents that nothing is more important than their children’s education and that’s why we’re building better schools for a better future for our kids,” Mr Brumby said. “Now students and staff can benefit from world class facilities.”

“Education is my Government’s number one priority and we are working with the community to deliver projects such as this one at Mount Waverley Primary School for our children.

“These new facilities, which include brand new first-rate classrooms, a new library as well as new and improved staff and administration facilities will ensure local families have access to the best facilities and the best education for their children.

“Mount Waverley Primary School is a great example of what is being achieved across the state as part of our $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan.

The Victorian Government provided $5.5 million in funding to the Mount Waverley Primary Schools redevelopment, with the school contributing $44,000.

The school also received $200,000 under the Commonwealth’s National School Pride program for school improvement projects and has been funded $3 million for a new multi-purpose centre, under the Commonwealth’s Building the Education Revolution.

Mr Brumby said the Victorian Government funding boost was an example of the Government’s commitment to improving education for Victorian students.

“There has never been a greater effort or investment in education in Victoria than there is right now and our Government is working shoulder to shoulder with the Rudd Government to make the right investments to renew our schools and create jobs,” he said.

Ms Morand, also Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development, said Mount Waverley Primary had been virtually rebuilt with 16 new classrooms, a library, student toilets and staff and administration facilities.

“This major investment in facilities at Mount Waverley is part of the biggest schools rebuilding program in Victoria’s history and will help give local students the best start in life,” Ms Morand said.

“Mount Waverley Primary students have access these world-class facilities and the modern equipment they need and deserve.

“This school has been providing an educational facility for Mt Waverley children for over 100 years and now students and staff can benefit from world class facilities.”
