Nagambie rezoning paves the way for more than 250 jobs

The first sod has been turned in a new $250 million development which will pave the way for new residential and tourism opportunities at Lake Nagambie.
Planning Minister Justin Madden today turned the sod saying the development would create more than 250 jobs over the next five years.
“The Brumby Government is taking action for local economies,” Mr Madden said.

“Despite the global challenges, Victoria's economic principle’s are sound.”

Mr Madden said the $250 million development would bring a number of benefits to Nagambie and the Shire as a whole, which is renowned as one of Victoria’s premier destinations for wine, food and recreation.

“This development represents a significant boost to the area by introducing a range of new land uses on the shores of Lake Nagambie,” he said. The construction phase of the project will create between 250-300 new jobs with a further 100 jobs upon its completion.

As well as creating new houses and jobs, the Lake Nagambie development will establish a 100-room resort complex and commercial precinct comprising a conference centre, restaurants, shops and a chapel as well as a camping caravan resort and a retirement village..

Existing waterways will be upgraded and improved, and a continuous pathway along the lake foreshore will link the new development with the Nagambie Township.
“This development brings positive social and economic outcomes by providing short and long-term employment opportunities to the area and enhancing the region’s liveability and tourism profile,” Mr Madden said.

“The development meets the community’s growing demand for housing by promoting a diversity of lot sizes and range of dwelling types.
The Lake Nagambie development supports the region’s economic development objectives, building on the local wine and tourism related businesses and creating ongoing employment opportunities.

This development comes as a result of a recent rezoning to the land adjacent to the Nagambie Township and demonstrates the Brumby Government’s commitment to working with Councils to promote regional development across Victoria.
