State Secretary and Campaign Director
Nicholas Reece
Nick became State Secretary and Campaign Director of the Victorian Australian Labor Party in September 2009.
Prior to his appointment as State Secretary, Nick served as the Head of Policy and Strategy in the Office of the Premier, John Brumby.
He has also worked as Director of Economic Policy for the former Premier Steve Bracks and as an Adviser to the former Treasurer John Brumby. During the 2007 Federal Election Campaign Nick worked in Kevin Rudd’s Policy Unit at Campaign Headquarters in Sydney.
Nick joined the Ringwood branch of the Australian Labor Party in 1992 and has been actively involved in local campaigns, policy groups and state election campaigns.
Nick has a background in law, finance and journalism having previously worked as solicitor with national law firm Maurice Blackburn and as a journalist with the Australian Financial Review. During his time at Maurice Blackburn, Nick was part of the legal team representing the MUA against Patrick’s in the Waterfront Dispute.
He is a Director of the national street paper, The Big Issue, and was on the organising committee for The Homeless World Cup which was held in Melbourne in December 2008.
Nick has a Masters of Public Administration (ANZSOG – University of Melbourne), Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Arts Honours (Monash).
Personal
With a young family – two daughters aged under 3 - a working wife and a substantial mortgage, Nick understands the pressures on working families and the importance of the vital services that government provides.
