About David

Senator David Feeney was born in Adelaide in 1970. He was educated at Mercedes College, Adelaide, before moving to Melbourne to study at the University of Melbourne and Monash University, where he completed a masters degree in public policy.

David worked as a federal industrial officer with the Transport Workers’ Union of Australia from 1994 to1999.

He was elected to the position of Victorian ALP State Secretary and Campaign Director in March 1999, a position he held until December 2002.

In 2003 he took up the position as the Director of Strategy to Premier Steve Bracks. For 12 months, beginning in March 2005, David was appointed the Campaign Director for the South Australian Branch of the ALP in the lead up to the March 2006 South Australian state election.

Throughout the period 2005 - 2008 David held the position of ALP Assistant National Secretary and Deputy National Campaign Director, with particular responsibility for the national marginal seats campaign at the 2007 federal election. At that election David was elected to the Senate for Victoria.

Senator Feeney is a member of the Joint Statutory Committee on Public Accounts and Audit, and of the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade and Legal and Constitutional Affairs committees.

Senator Feeney is married to Liberty Sanger, a principal and board member of Maurice Blackburn lawyers.
