About Anna Burke

Anna Burke was first elected as the representative for Chisholm at the 1998 Federal Election. She was re-elected at the 2001, 2004 and 2007 Federal Elections.

Anna was born in 1966 in Melbourne. She and her four siblings were raised by their parents in Ashwood, which is part of the electorate Anna now represents. After completing secondary school, Anna studied at both Monash and Melbourne Universities and holds a Bachelor of Arts (honours) degree and a Masters of Commerce.

Prior to entering Parliament, Anna worked as a National Industrial Officer for the Finance Sector Union (FSU), and in human relations for VicRoads and the Victorian Institute of Technology (now Victoria University).

Anna is chair of the ALP's Marginal Seats Members group. She is deputy chair of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services. Anna also serves as deputy chair of the Privileges Committee (House) and as a member of the Parliamentary Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit.

Anna and her family — husband Steve and their children Madeleine and John — live in Box Hill South.
