About Theo Theophanous

Theo Charles Theophanous has been a Member of Parliament since 1988.

He was Consumer Affairs Minister (August 1991 to October 1992); Minister Assisting for Manufacturing and Industry Development (August 1991- October 1992); and Small Business Minister (January - October 1992).

Between 1994 and February 1999, Mr Theophanous was the leader of the Victorian Opposition in the Legislative Council and Shadow Minister for Industry, Employment and WorkCover.

He was the chairman of the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee (PAEC) between 1989 and 1991 and has been a continuous member of that parliamentary committee since 1993.

Theo is an honours graduate from La Trobe University and tutored in politics and social statistics at the university before entering parliament.

He was born in Cyprus, is married and has four children. His academic and political interests include social justice, sustainable economic development, multiculturalism and humanitarianism.
