About Johan Scheffer

Johan Scheffer was elected to the Victorian Parliament at the 2002 State Election and then re-elected in 2006.

Johan sees it as his job as an MP to speak up for individuals and local organisations and to encourage residents to have their say. An important part of Johan's work is to explain the Brumby Government’s policies and programs and to help local organisations such as schools, health services, environmental groups, pre-school centres, seniors’ groups and sporting clubs to access resources.

In August 2007 Johan was elected Chair of the Parliament’s Law Reform Committee. This enables him to contribute to research and community consultation across Victoria on legal matters referred by the Parliament. Johan is also a member of the Parliament's Family and Community Development Committee. Prior to the November 2006 election Johan Chaired the Drug and Crime Prevention Committee.

As an ALP member of the Victorian Parliament for Eastern Victoria Region, Johan makes it his business to meet individuals and organisations from across the Region including the Mornington Peninsula, Gippsland, the LaTrobe Valley, the Yarra Ranges and the Strzeleckis.

Johan Scheffer works with the Brumby Government to continue to improve literacy and numeracy standards for school children and boost adult vocational education and training. As well, he works with the Labor Government to resource better ways to deliver regional and rural health services and encourage health professionals to work in rural Victoria. Johan supports Labor’s commitment to further reduce green house emissions; recycle more wastewater, repair our rivers and reform water allocation and trading systems.
