About Jaala Pulford
Jaala joined the Castlemaine Branch of the Labor Party at the age of 16 because she saw Labor and political engagement as the best way to improve equality in society.
Upon completing secondary school in Bendigo Jaala moved to Melbourne to attend University and pursue work opportunities. worked as an advocate for injured workers
In 1994 Jaala was the youngest participant in the inaugural ACTU traineeship for young Union Organisers. Since 1995 Jaala has been an Organiser with the National Union of Workers, Victorian Branch.
She has worked as an advocate for injured workers, achieving better outcomes for members through conciliation of individual disputes and campaigning for improvements to legislation in this area. Jaala served as a member of the WorkCover Compensation and Rehabilitation Working Group.improvements to legislation
Jaala has also worked as a Union Organiser for call centres, an industry representing a predominantly casual, young and female work force.
Jaala has used her experience in industrial relations to improve wages, employment conditions and job security for staff at her community child care centre.
Over the last 15 years Jaala has held various positions in the ALP including State and National Conference Delegate; member of the Labor Women’s Network National Executive and is a past president of the Women’s Policy Committee.
Jaala enjoys spending time with her family, camping and folk music festivals, ideally all at once. She looks forward to a recovery in form of the mighty Bombers.
Jaala lives with her husband and two children in Ballarat.
