About Gayle Tierney

Gayle has been a Union advocate working on behalf of car workers for the last 17 years. Gayle has served 14 years as State Secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union - Vehicle Division, the Vehicle Division Federal President for the last 4 years and as an ACTU Executive member since 2000.

Prior to her engagement in the Vehicle Industry, Gayle worked as a Federal Industrial Officer for a white-collar Union and had Federal Government Departmental responsibilities in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne.committed to ensuring that manufacturing continues to play a critical role in our economy

Gayle is committed to ensuring that manufacturing continues to play a critical role in our economy and workers and their families have job security, safe workplaces and opportunities for aspirations to be realised.

Gayle has a keen interest in work and family issues, gender representation and is a member of Emily’s List.

Gayle has a Bachelor Arts (Politics and Asian Studies) from Flinders University.  Gayle attended country schools from Year 6 to Year 12 and understands the critical importance of regional development.

Gayle is looking forward to playing a role in renewal and community building in Western Victoria; the importance of infrastructure development for our economic future and the provision of programs that focus on empowering communities to engage in a genuine and sustainable way.

Gayle is married and has one child at Secondary School. Spending time with family members, reading, film and cooking are all very important to her.
