About Carlo Carli
After the 2006 election Carlo became chair of the Parliament's Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee. The Committee's area of responsibility is the scrutiny of bills introduced into Parliament as well as scrutiny of regulations. This includes examining the compliance of bills and regulations with the Victorian Charter of Rights. From 1999 to 2006 Carlo was Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure in this role he was a major proponent of reform in the taxi, tow truck, bus and port industries.
Carlo represents the Brunswick electorate, which is a very culturally diverse and multicultural community. Carlo is a strong advocate for his community. He has grown up in the area and he lives in Brunswick. Carlo is a regular user of public transport and often commutes to work on his bicycle.
Carlo is a fluent speaker of Italian and Spanish and he has recently been improving his French. His daily life has now become very polyglot, with the addition of Greek speaking relations by marriage to the already bilingual family. The Brunswick/Coburg area is one of the most linguistically diverse in Melbourne, with large Italian, Greek, Arabic, Chinese and Turkish communities, as well as representatives of about 80 different language groups.
a community activist in many areasCarlo has a long-standing interest in urban planning. He has completed a Masters thesis for the Melbourne University MUP on the medium density housing boom.
Carlo has been a very active member of the ALP for over 20 years, in the Brunswick area, and has been a community activist in many areas.
His work background includes the trade union movement and local, State and Federal government, including a period as Ministerial Adviser in Housing in the twilight months of the Kirner government.
Since election to Parliament in 1994 Carlo has pursued an interest in Information Technology & Infrastructure and was the Labor Opposition spokesman on IT issues.

Features: Brunswick District is a densely populated residential electorate with some industrial areas. Natural features include the Merri and Moonee Ponds Creeks.
